The Buchanan family arrived in Elma township, Perth County, in about 1847 or 1848, coming from Tyrone County, Ireland.
The family consisted of:
Andrew Buchanan, born ?, died 1847 in Kingston, Ontario.
Andrew died of "emigrant fever" which he caught on board the ship. His parentage is unknown.
Jane Long, born ?, died between 1861 and 1871 in Elma township, Perth County. Her parentage is unknown. Her maiden name may have been McNeilans and not Long.
They had eight children:
- Robert, born 1815, died May 22, 1868, buried in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Elma township, Perth County.
Married Margaret Booth. - Charles, born 1817, died Jan 13, 1905, buried in Elma Center Cemetery, Atwood.
Married Nancy (Ann) Porter, born ?, died May 18, 1895. - James, born 1821, died ?
Married Bessie Glenn. - William, born Mar 11, 1824, died Oct 3, 1885, buried in Donegal Cemetery, Donegal.
Married Ann Thompson, born June 6, 1824, died Nov 6, 1911.

Married Mary Jane Booth, born 1836, died Oct 19, 1876. - Samuel, born 1830, died ?
Married Mary Watson. - John, born 1831, died Feb 15, 1909, buried in Rosedale Cemetery, Rosedale, Manitoba.
Married Isabelle Watson, born Jan 17, 1837, died Mar 30, 1917. - Jane, born Feb 27, 1836, died May 24, 1917, buried in Rosedale Cemetery, Rosedale, Manitoba.
Married James Watson, born July 3, 1825, died May 24, 1904.
Because of the fact that my 2great grandparents were first cousins, I descend from two of these eight - William and Jane. Further information can be found on these families by using the links below.
As for the other family members, many of them moved to the western provinces. If you ask me about them, I may be able to provide more information or to let you know who to ask.

I did a search looking for other tartans, and while I found lots, unfortunately most of the ones I found are on commercial sites, and I'm not linking to any site selling anything. Sorry. (Can you believe, I found a site selling tartan dog collars??)
